
Michelle Delancy
Judge, Miami-Dade County
Judge Michelle Delancy is a first generation American, born in Queens, New York, to Jamaican parents. She migrated to Miami with her mother and a brother in 1979, when she was just nine years old.
After graduating from Miami Southridge Senior High School in 1988, Judge Delancy attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where she majored in International Politics, Law and Organization, with a concentration in African and Middle Eastern Studies. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Service in 1992.
Thereafter, Judge Delancy attended the University of Miami School of Law on a full tuition scholarship. After graduation, she was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1995 and began practicing law at a boutique law firm in Miami. In 2000, Judge Delancy started her own law practice, and in 2001, she partnered with Marlon Hill, Esq. to form the firm, delancyhill, P.A., where she served as managing partner for fourteen years.
In 2015, delancyhill, P.A. merged with the firm of Hamilton Miller. As a partner at Hamilton Miller, Judge Delancy handled Complex Construction and Commercial Litigation until her departure in February 2018 when she returned to solo practice in Palmetto Bay, Florida.
As a trial lawyer, she tried over 22 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials in Miami-Dade County, Broward County, Palm Beach County and Flagler County. For ten years, she served as Special Counsel to the City of North Miami’s Code Enforcement Board and Special Master and outside litigation counsel to the City of North Miami. She also served as an adjunct law professor at Miami-Dade College Law Center and the Skilled Advocate Company.
On April 24, 2020, Judge Delancy became the first non-incumbent Black person to be elected to the Circuit Court bench in the history of Miami-Dade County and the first person ever to be elected without opposition.
Judge Delancy is certified proficient in the Spanish language. She has been married for almost 27 years to Adrian C. Delancy, Esq. and they have six children: Jalyn (26), Lauren (17), Kristen (16), Adrian, Jr. (14), Aidan (11) and Jordin (10).
