
Loreta Lorfils
Chief of Detention Support, Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation
Loreta Lorfils is an accomplished leader in the field of corrections, currently serving as the Division Chief of
Detention Support for the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR). With over a
decade and a half of experience, Chief Lorfils has dedicated her career to enhancing the safety and security
of correctional facilities while promoting effective inmate management.
Chief Lorfils began her journey in corrections in February of 2010, successfully completing the Traditional
Correctional Basic Recruit Training Academy later that year. She was assigned to the Turner Guilford Knight
Correctional Center (TGKCC), where she managed the care, custody and control of both general population
and maximum-security inmates. Throughout her tenure at MDCR, which is the eighth-largest county jail
system in the nation, Chief Lorfils has continuously sought opportunities for professional growth.
Her career trajectory reflects her commitment to leadership and excellence. Chief Lorfils was promoted to
Correctional Corporal in January 2014, where she became a first-line supervisor at TGKCC, the Pre-Trial
Detention Center (PTDC), and the largest facility within MDCR the Metro-West Detention Center (MWDC). By
November of 2015, she had advanced to Correctional Sergeant, overseeing critical incidents and staff
assignments while specializing in mental health services for inmates. In addition, she was assigned to the
Director’s Office Labor Management Unit (LMU).
In November of 2018, Chief Lorfils was promoted to Correctional Lieutenant, where she served as the
Administrative Security Lieutenant and Executive Officer at the MWDC and the Boot Camp Program. Her
leadership capabilities were further recognized when she was appointed Correctional Captain in March of
2022, overseeing the Transportation and Special Services Bureau (TSSB), the Mental Health Treatment Center
(MHTC), as well as the Intake and Release Bureau (IRB).
In November of 2023, Chief Lorfils was appointed as the Executive Officer of Operations. In this role, she
provided support to senior leadership and assisted with overseeing multiple facilities, bureaus, and units,
including IRB, Court Services Bureau (CSB), Transportation Unit (TU), Hospital Services Unit (HSU),
Classification and Inmate Management Bureau (CIMB) TGKCC, PTDC, and MWDC. Most recently, Chief Lorfils was assigned as the Chief of Detention Support Division where she oversees IRB,
CSB, TU, and HSU.
Chief Lorfils’ extensive experience in managing diverse inmate populations, staff, coordinating interagency
activities, and participating in strategic planning reflects her dedication to the mission of MDCR. She is a
member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). Chief Lorfils is a
graduate of Barry University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in public administration to further
enhance her qualifications to lead and innovate within the corrections field. She is also the first Haitian
American female appointed as a Correctional Chief within MDCR.

and aims to position MDCR as a leading correctional department in the nation.
