Audrey Coney Brown

Deputy Chief Audrey Coney-Brown has 48 years of experience in the law enforcement field. She began her career in 1975 with the City of Miami Police Department as a secretary in the Chief of Police Office. In 1980, she became a police officer and in 1989, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
She worked in many facets within the Department and retired in March, 2007.
On June 7, 2007, she was hired as a Sergeant with the Miami Gardens Police Department. She was assigned to the Professional Compliance Division, where she was instrumental in conducting background investigations to hire the first 150 sworn and support personnel, as well as conduct internal investigations.
In 2013, she was promoted to the rank of Captain and managed the Support Services Division, which comprised of the following Units: Citizens on Patrol, Communications, Community Relations, Pre-Arrest Diversion Program, Court and Off-Duty, Fleet, False Alarm, Canine, Red Light Camera, Motorcycle Squad, Reserve Officer Program, School Crossing Guard Program, and Property & Evidence. In 2014, she was promoted to the rank of Major and was assigned to manage the Investigations Division.
From 2016 to 2021, she returned to the Support Services Division in the capacity of a Major.
In April 2021, she was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief and was assigned to the Operations Division; which included the Canine Unit, the Chaplain Program, the Honor Guard Program, the Community Service Aides, the Detention and Uniform Patrol Officers, the Field Training Program, and the School Crossing Guard Program. She was responsible for approximately 111 sworn personnel and 50 non-sworn personnel. In July, 2023, Deputy Chief Brown was re-assigned as the Deputy Chief of the Investigations Division, and currently plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Division’s operations and personnel.
Deputy Chief Coney-Brown graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude, from Florida International University (FIU) with a B.A. Degree in Public Administration; and has been a resident of the City of Miami Gardens since 1980. Deputy Chief Coney-Brown is the first African American female to hold the positions of Sergeant, Captain, Major, and Deputy Chief with the Miami Gardens Police Department. Dedicated to upholding the highest standards of law enforcement, Deputy Chief Coney-Brown consistently demonstrates a high level of professionalism and integrity. She is a member of the National Black Police Association, National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives, Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. She has attended numerous leadership and educational courses to excel in her profession.
Her unwavering commitment and extensive experience in law enforcement makes her a respected leader in the community.
