Stephanie Dalton, RET Sergeant

Stephanie Frederick Dalton is a native Miamian and a product of the Overtown community. She received her earlier education in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and later earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Media Science from Bennett College in Greensboro NC.
Upon graduation, she was employed with Guilford County Public Schools and North Carolina A&T University. In 1977, she joined the City of Greensboro Police Department as a Patrol Officer. However, in 1978 she returned to Miami where she was employed as a Media Assistant with Miami-Dade County Community College.
In May 1980, she joined the City of Miami Police Department where she served for 26 years. Her first assignments were Patrol and Community Relations. In 1983, she became the first Black female Officer assigned to Media Relations, formerly known as P.I.O. She later returned to Patrol and was assigned to a Witness Protection Detail. Her latter assignments were in Criminal Investigations, Economic Crimes, and Auto Theft as the first Black female investigator. Her last and final assignment was as a liaison between DCF and Sexual Battery. Ms. Dalton retired in December of 2006.
