Position Type: Part-time
Salary: $18 / hour; up to 25 hrs / week
Docents are ambassadors for the City of Miami Black Police Museum and help to educate potential and current visitors on the history behind the museum. Through innovative programs, cultural activities and events focused on the mission of the institution.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Increase awareness of the museum and deliver education programs and interpret museum exhibits.
- Guide patrons through exhibit experiences that enhance the reach of the precinct and includes other correlating
- Stay informed on changes to the exhibits and the museum.
- Conducting interviews and capturing video footage of oral history participants, tours, events and other related content that would be beneficial to our target audience.
- Participating in special events such as fundraisers or educational programs for visitors.
- Work with museum volunteers, docents, and interns to maintain communication and program effectiveness.
- Functions as a member of the exhibits team, developing themes, exhibits, interpretation, and promotion of exhibits
- Flexibility with scheduling; willing to lead privately booked, 60 minute adult group tours.
- Develops and implements complementary educational components for special exhibits and interpretations.
- Manage/monitor listings and sites to increase SEO and name recognition.
- Works closely with area schools, both public and private, (including home schoolers) to develop classroom and on-site Lesson Plans and
- other programming that directly align with the Florida State Standards) standards.
